Eastham Bikeways Committee

Minutes for July 8, 2012 Meeting

Members Present: Paul Schofield, Sheri Cocchiola. (There are only two members on the
committee at this time), 4 pending new members.

Guests Present: Mia Blackwall (Associate Member), Future Committee Members: Andrea
Aldana, Mary Beth O’Shea, Mike Fontanarosa, and Bike Committee friend Bob Donahoe.

1. Discussed then approved July minutes.

2. Paul spoke of the Pan Mass Challenge and passed the discussion to Bob Donahue, Mis is
interested in assisting Bob at his station.
3. No new information about tunnel, will be addressed at next meeting. State is starting to apply
about pressure to make the tunnel more safe.

4. Sheri brought up issue regarding sign at Locust St and Salt Pond Rd which needs to add a pointer
to Nauset Trail, which is the bike path from the Information Center to Coast Guard Beach. This has
been approved by the Bike Committee, Sherri is to bring this to the Historic Department for their
approval as well.

5. Sheri explained the volunteer program that consists of willing bike committee members and those
individuals patrolling a specified stretch of the bike trail in Eastham for litter and other debris. Paul
emphasized that this is not required but a volunteer scenario.

6. Paul suggested that we find a simple bicycle logo that emphasis family involvement in bicycle use.

7. Paul provided some literature to those present regarding an event called "bike safety at the sea
shore" to be held at the visitor center.

8. Town Manager attended the meeting and discussed the potential combination of the recreation and
the bike committee. At this point the Manager and the bike committee members felt it was not a
good idea.

9. Town Manager at this meeting also forwarded us with the potential of having our meetings video
taped with sound included. Every member and those potential new members in attendance felt this
was a bad idea and some stated that if this came to be, they would resign their position on the
committee.

10. Sheri suggested that we reach out to neighboring town’s Bike Committees to see if we could
accomplish something as a group.

11. Schedule change, to 2nd Thursday of the month 5:15 PM.
